At 28,000 BTUs maximum and a viewing glass measuring 36½ inches wide by 22 inches tall, the Empire Madison DVP42 Premium Fireplace doesn't leave much room for doubt about what it's here to do. The zero-clearance, direct-vent design means it can be installed flush into a wall without the structural accommodations a traditional masonry fireplace demands — a genuine advantage when you're working with a remodel or new construction where every inch counts.
The 4" x 6⅝" direct-vent system accommodates both top and rear venting configurations, giving your installer real flexibility in routing. It's compatible with a range of 4" x 6⅝" venting systems, including Simpson Duravent, American Metal Products, Selkirk Direct-Temp, Security Secure Vent, Excel DV Venting, and BDM — so you're not locked into a single ecosystem when sourcing components.
Inside the firebox, a contour tube-style burner produces a flame profile designed to play naturally against the hand-painted ceramic fiber log set. The logs aren't an afterthought; the ceramic fiber construction retains and radiates heat while the hand-painted finish delivers the kind of detail that holds up to close inspection from the couch. Two ceramic fiber liner options — Aged Brick and Herringbone — let you tailor the firebox interior to match your room's character.
The intermittent pilot ignition (IP) system lights on demand rather than burning a standing pilot around the clock, which is a small but meaningful efficiency gain over a full heating season. Operating on 120V AC, the Madison DVP42 also supports battery backup operation during a power outage — useful in climates where the two tend to coincide. Heat output is modulated between 19,000 and 28,000 BTUs, giving you a range suited to both the shoulder seasons and the depths of winter.
At just 16 inches deep, the firebox profile is compact enough to work in tighter wall assemblies without sacrificing the large viewing area. The tempered glass front measures 36½"W x 22"H — wide enough to anchor a room visually even when the fire isn't running.
A Barrier Screen is required to complete installation and is sold separately. Multiple remote control options are compatible with this model, and related 42-inch configurations in the DVP42 family include models DVP42FP30N, DVP42FP31N, DVP42FP71N, DVP42FP72N, and DVP42FP91N if you're comparing feature sets across the lineup.
