At 40,000 BTU/H maximum input, the Empire Breckenridge Select 32" Vent-Free Circulating Firebox is built to do real work — not just look the part. The flush front design means no jutting framework competing with your trim or tile work, and the matte black interior and included standard hood give the firebox a clean, finished appearance even before you choose a liner or log set.

The viewing area measures 31" wide by just over 31" tall, giving you a generous flame window that rewards a well-chosen 18-inch vent-free log set. Speaking of which: this firebox is designed exclusively for use with ANSI Z21.11.2-approved unvented room heaters — certified 18-inch vent-free burners and log sets only. That compatibility note matters, and it's worth confirming your burner of choice before checkout. The burner and log set are not included.

Zero-clearance certification means the firebox can be framed directly into a standard stud wall, which simplifies installation considerably. Framing dimensions come in at 35 3/8" wide by 38 7/8" tall by 23 3/8" deep — precise enough that your contractor will appreciate having them in hand before the first nail goes in. Two clearance requirements to keep in mind: 42 inches minimum from the top of the hood to the ceiling, and 36 inches of front clearance. Plan accordingly and you won't have any surprises during inspection.

The circulating firebox configuration is where things get genuinely useful. Unlike a purely radiant unit, the circulating design draws cooler room air in and pushes warmer air back out — and if you want to maximize that effect, the optional FBB5 blower is a direct-fit addition. It's not included, but it's worth considering if this firebox is going into a larger room or a space that tends to run cold.

A curtain fire screen is included. Optional liner styles — herringbone brick, banded firebrick, and others — are available separately and can meaningfully change the character of the interior. The unit ships at 100 lbs, so plan for two people on delivery day. Gas inlet size is 3/8", and the unit is available in both natural gas and propane configurations.

The low-profile hearth and absence of lower louvers keep the aesthetic minimal, leaving room for whatever surround or mantel treatment suits the space. This is a firebox that stays out of its own way — which, in custom fireplace design, is exactly what you want.
