Flame height is managed through an adjustable knob valve, giving you genuine control rather than the binary on/off experience of lesser systems. This model (SKU 759-BA-11-M4NC) uses a manual match-lit ignition with a flame-sensing thermocouple — a reliable, proven approach that keeps the mechanical footprint simple and the maintenance conversation short.

The burner plate is steel, and the unit ships with the burner orifice, regulator, and (for natural gas configurations) a flex connector included. Note that a shut-off valve within 6 feet of the fire bowl is required for installation but is not included — your licensed installation technician will handle that as part of the setup. Installation by a licensed technician is required.

The Calais accommodates any media mix, and the manufacturer recommends a 40-lb base layer of lava rock. Fire glass media (also 40 lbs recommended) is sold separately — consider it the finishing layer that takes the aesthetic from functional to considered. For propane users: the unit cannot store a tank internally, but an external tank table is available separately to keep things tidy.

If manual ignition isn't your preference, an electronic ignition upgrade is available under the H4NC designation, which adds Bluetooth smartphone control and increased BTU output — a different SKU worth exploring if that's the direction you're headed.
